Scenes from the Weekend

Another hot weekend spent mainly outdoors!  Friday I ran some errands during the day with the boys and it was pretty uneventful.  But we started it off right with a little playing together while mommy was able to enjoy her coffee hot and in relative peace. Always a win in my books.

Saturday we had no plans so we spent it pretty much outdoors and loving family time.  We took a trip to the park in the morning where Marcus is finally enjoying the swing.

Later after naps were had by all since a certain little someone was up at the crack of dawn again, we enjoyed the warm weather and cleaned up the back yard.

Found these cool shades from last summer that no longer fit Lucas, but little brother was happy to have them as a hand me down.

Marcus and I had a rough go Saturday night since someone has a bottom tooth cutting through that is giving him the hardest time.  So Saturday started off nice with him sleeping until 6 and the hubby taking the boys and letting me grab an extra hour of sleep.  I came down to the sweet smell of bacon and biscuits.  But first a dance party!

We took advantage of an unlimited garbage day (I know glamorous lifestyle here) and cleared a whole bunch of junk in our garage and mud room.  The hubby found this truck that had been put away one day after a toddler tantrum and the look of delight when it made a reappearance this weekend makes me think I have to put a few more toys away and take them out once in a while to be better appreciated.

Before naps we enjoyed the sun and heat in the kiddie pool.

After a much needed nap from the boys we headed to my in laws for their 40th wedding anniversary.  Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the couple but I did get all this goodness.

My father in law is Lucas' favourite person.  They have always had a special bond.

Gianni took Monday off and took the boys and I to the zoo so we had an unexpected long weekend.  Recap of that later this week on the blog.

Baby, You're a Firework!

Here's a few snaps from our long weekend.   We spent most of it outdoors whenever the sun was out!  Last year Lucas was too young to try and stay up for fireworks, but this year we tried to push back his bedtime as much as we could, he still didn't quite make it to the firework shows so on Sunday he enjoyed some my sister in law bought for his pleasure, and then on Monday after attempting unsuccessfully to stay for the local fireworks the hubby surprised him with some small ones at home.

His tiny little voice whispering wow whenever he saw the bright colours and lights shoot up was enough to make my heart melt in delight.  You forget how fascinating little things can be until you experience them again through the innocent eyes of your children.

A Spring Weekend

You know when you have those types of weekends that you never want to end (weekends for me are more sacred since it means more family time all three of us), well this past weekend was like that for me.  Despite a sprinkling of rain on Saturday afternoon we spent a lot of time outside, at the park, and Lucas playing with his first set of golf clubs (best $7 I ever spent at Walmart).

We ran some errands, hung out at Chapters, had a great family movie night on Saturday which included popcorn in bed!  Sunday Lucas woke up really really early after an awful night of sleep, and even though I was hoping for a good nap out of him because of it, I took the one hour he slept in stride, and we all just went outside and enjoyed extra time together.  We spent the morning at Ikea scoping out some new finds for a learning/craft corner I'm planning for Lucas' room, and the little man just loves to run around a muck in the children's area.  After a full weekend, we ordered Thai from a new place near our house, and it was easily the curry I have ever had.  The hubby and I capped off the night with a movie in bed, and snuggles before calling it a night.  I cannot wait for the weather to keep warming up, and spending more weekends like this all summer, playing in the backyard, hosting BBQS, and enjoying this time as a family of three (for now lol).

Someone wants to grow up and be just like his daddy!

Bought some cool children safe bath salts that colour the water.  I should have maybe mixed the yellow with another colour since this looks slightly like he's playing in pee!  But he loved it either way.  Bonus was having daddy join us for bath time, usually I take care of this part of his routine solo, but daddy decided to join us tonight!

Made his father so proud with how much he was into this golf set.  With another boy on the way they are close to forming their own foursome!

So excited to see the garlic we planted at the end of last season blooming.  Can't wait to plant the herbs next week, and the rest of the veggies after that!

This is what happy parenting looks like.

Scenes from the Weekend

We had such a great weekend.  Exhausting, but oh so much fun.

As part of our gift to my little sister for her birthday we took her and Lucas to the Science Center for the day on Saturday.  Both kids loved it so much, and Lucas was so well behaved that it just made the whole day enjoyable.  My sister Gyselle and the hubby have a shared love for science and how things work, so they were like two peas in a pod the whole day learning about things, and Gianni was always keen on answering her questions.  I can't believe that Gyselle was only three when Gianni entered my life, and in many ways she has never known a life without him in it, and he has always been an amazing big brother to her.

Gyselle was so great with Lucas too, always ready to hold his hand, and discover things with him.  Makes me so proud of the little woman she is becoming.  Best line of the day: Gyselle telling me that if I want her to babysit she will waive the $1 an hour fee cause we took to the science center.

Both kids conked out on the way home from all the walking.  I wish I could say this meant a nice long nap, cause Lord knows this mama could have used one too but it was not to be.  After a fun bath together we headed out for dinner at Mandarin with my parents.  It was such a great night, Lucas continued his streak of being in a great mood and I passed out like a light that night.

Unfortunately Sunday say Lucas wake up at 4:45am!  I thought he was set to sleep in with the day's before antics, and poor nap, but  guess he knew that it was his cousin's birthday party and he was raring to go.

I can't believe that we were celebrating Emily's THIRD birthday.  Seriously where has the time gone.  She is such a sweet, talkative, and spunky little girl, and there are no words for how much I love her.  She celebrated with a beautiful Sofia the First party planned by my sister, at an indoor playground that had all the kids running around and expending all their energies before bed.

Emily was the sweetest when she was opening gifts, exclaiming "what?!" every time she opened something new, and just so happy for all her gifts.  She adored the attention which was so cute to watch since last year she absolutely hated it.

The cutest part of the evening had to be when it was time to cut the cake.  Emily insisted on singing Happy Birthday to herself before anyone else could sing to her, and watching as her closest family gazed lovingly at her was just so beautiful

And where was my child throughout this all.  Playing, I swear he had the time of his life, and was non too happy when it was time to leave, but then rewarded his tired mommy by sleeping in until 7am this morning.  Its the small pleasures in life.

We are off to enjoy the spring like weather today, hope everyone else enjoyed their weekends as much as we did.

Scenes from the Weekend

We were fortunate this weekend that the hubby was off for four whole days.  He has been working like a mad man finishing his current project at work so it was a nice change to have him home Friday, and then Monday was a provincial holiday known as Family Day.  And we did just that, spent the whole weekend together, just the three of us, and it was just so nice and relaxing!

Friday was Valentine's Day, and my boys surprised me with breakfast, roses, and beautiful Pandora earrings that I was not expecting at all!  We decided to take Lucas to an indoor playground as a treat for the little guy.  He loves that place so much, and I was looking forward to having the hubby there to help out with Lucas climbing antics, and what do you know the kid had no interest that day in jungle gym area, figures.  We decided to keep dinner a low key affair this week and did Chinese take out which is a win in my books any day.

Saturday hubby earned even more major points when he let me sleep in, which is always nice considering I'm up super early every day with an energetic toddler.  Although I didn't stay in bed too long, I couldn't resist all the noises downstairs between my two boys and decided to join them.  We ran some errands as a family, one of which was to the grocery store, where Lucas sat in a cool car cart, it lasted all of five minutes, and then he kept wanting to stand and ride it; Lord help me for the years to come with my dare devil.  Gianni was determined to BBQ meat for dinner so he shoveled around out barbeque, and him and Lucas braved the cold to make dinner.  Lucas has gotten over his aversion to the snow now that I have been doubling up his pants instead of putting his snow pants on.

Sunday we took a trip to Ikea where Lucas loves playing in the kid section, and we took advantage to scope out some furniture and organizing pieces for some upcoming house projects.  Afterwards we made a stop at our local Chapters, Lucas and I like to go at least once a week, we usually play with the trains and sometimes meet up with other mommies and their kiddies.  A situation occurred that made me so proud of my little man.  Another little boy was there and was not taking it too kindly that he now had to share the trains with Lucas, who really was happy with just one train and being very good at sharing.  So Lucas was trying to keep his distance and this kid (a tad older than Lucas) just comes up to him and shoves him to the floor.  His parents were very apologetic, and Lucas did cry, but I was worried that once Lucas got up that he would retaliate, but he didn't!  He just yelled at the kid from a distance, as if scolding him for pushing him, and went about his business.  All in all a good lesson in sharing, and how to deal with awkward situations, and I'm very glad that Lucas' instinct wasn't to hit back.

Monday started off pretty awful, I had already slept pretty bad, and then Lucas woke up at 4:30, yup you read that right, and there was no way he would fall back asleep.  I'm pretty sure he has his two year molars trying to make an early appearance, as his gums are pretty swollen, and he has been drooling up a storm, so I know I'm in for a slew of early mornings again.  Thankfully we both got a good nap in afternoon, and the rest of the day was spent in lazy bliss.

Unfortunately we are kind of stuck at home today with some bad weather out there, so I've got activities planned to keep the little guy occupied, and my sanity intact.  Hope everyone else has a great weekend.
